I just read your journal above. Equipment is not all it's about... as you have discovered. The D40 is a perfectly respectable camera. Its not megapixels that matter its lenses (10%) and the person behind the camera (90%). Yeah, lighting is critical but the photographer's eye and their relationship to the subject and whatever light they have is THE most important thing.
You have telent. Forget the kit... use the camera AT ALL TIMES. Take it everywhere with you and use it.
I think you have the makings of a great photographer...
Oh, by the way, the operative word is "Passion" and you already used it... so you are 50% of the way there.
